Edwards welcomes back Air Force's first C-17
The C-17 Globemaster III T-1 flies over Owens Valley, Calif., for a test sortie. Edwards welcomed home the aircraft after 208 days of life extension modifications in San Antonio. T-1 is the first Air Force C-17 built to perform developmental testing. The aircraft is scheduled to perform flight testing to include airdrop improvements and core-computer replacement testing. C-17 performs final drop in Falcon SLV test phase
A 65-foot, 72,000-pound booster rocket mock-up exits the cargo bay of a C-17 Globemaster III July 26, 2006. The airdrop was the final test in phase 2B of the Falcon small launch vehicle program, a joint effort between Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Air Force to develop a more flexible and low-cost method of putting a 1,000-pound satellite into low earth orbit. A Falcon Small Launch Vehicle is released from a C-17 Globemaster III here June 14, 2006. The Falcon SLV project, a joint venture between the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Air Force, is designed to develop a new method for putting satellites into low-earth orbit.
