Ares I 85,000
A jumbo drop test vehicle is loaded onto a C-17A for an airdrop Aug. 24. The JDTV was dropped over the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground to test the deceleration and recovery parachutes for the Ares I space program. AFRL Trident test
The second stage motor of a Trident 1 C-4 rocket motor was tested at Air Force Research Laboratory Detachment 7 at Edwards Air Force Base July 8. The AFRL testing was part of the Missile Defense Agency’s Aging and Surveillance Program and confirmed that the nearly 30-year-old motors remain viable for future MDA missions. About 30 volunteers from the 412th Maintenance Group, 95th Civil Engineering and the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum, came out Aug. 6, to help lift the NB-52B displayed at Edwards’ North Gate off the ground and set it on specially made steel stands to take the load of its massive weight off the tires and landing gear.
