COLONEL MICHAEL H. PLATT
Colonel Michael H. Platt is the Commander, Edwards Research Site (Detachment 7), and the Associate Director, Propulsion Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Edwards Air Force Base, California. He is responsible for the health, good order and discipline of over 60 military active duty and reserve members at the Laboratory's $2.5B, 65 square mile research site. He also directs safety, security and logistics compliance activities supporting research and development operations valued at over $110M per year and involving 500 military, civilian and contractor personnel.

Colonel Platt received his commission in the Air Force in May 1989 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Astronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy. He started his career at the Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California, where he served as Financial Program Manager and Threat Assessment Engineer. After earning a Masters in Astronautical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Colonel Platt went to Kirkland Air Force Base, New Mexico where he worked at Air Force Material Command's Office of Aerospace Studies. He then served as the Air Force Research Laboratory Phillips Site Section Commander. His following assignments took him to Europe, where he served as Chief of the Wing Operations Center, 52nd Fighter Wing, at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, and on to Incirlik, Turkey, where he commanded the 39th Services Squadron and was Deputy Commander of the 39th Mission Support Group. Prior to assuming his current position, Colonel Platt was the Military Assistant to the Director, Defense Technology Security Administration, Washington D.C. He served as the Director's senior military advisor and supported the organizations technology security mission.

He is married to the former Ms. Auline Ello and they have three children.
