The Lockheed U-2 operated by the United States Air Force photographed the secret placement of Soviet missiles in Cuba October 14, 1962. Reconnaissance missions flown by the U-2 monitored movement of Soviet ships and the dismantling of the intermediate range ballistic missiles.
