Edwards to clean for spring

Strong winds help create large outdoor accumulations of trash, brush, and other debris. The trash accumulation is not only an eyesore, but also serves as a trash hazard.

The 95th Air Base Wing commander proclaimed Monday through May 4 as "Edwards Air Force Base Spring Cleanup Week."

It is important for all Team Edwards members to pay special attention to cleaning up our living and working areas, both interior and exterior. Not only will it eliminate major hazards, but it will also create a better environment in which to live, work and play.

It also offers the opportunity to remind everyone to comply with the standards outlined in the following publications: Air Force Flight Test Center Instruction 32-23, Adopt-A-Lot; AFFTC Pamphlet 32-1, Housing Brochure; and AFFTC Handbook 32-7, Building Manager's Handbook.

Housing residents should remember that recyclable items and green waste must be placed in the appropriate containers. If housing residents place trash or garbage in plastic bags or boxes, there is a 50-pound weight limit. Residents may place these items at the curb on the same day as their refuse collection.

Some items require specialized disposal.

Metal items can be taken to the recycling center at the landfill. People interested in bulk refuse collection for large items or boxes should call the Civil Engineer Contract Management Division at 277-2431.

Anti-freeze can be turned in at the Skills Development Center and Auto Hobby Shop. Motor oil can be turned in at the AAFES gas station. Tires can be turned in at either location for a minimal disposal fee. Paint, household chemicals, gas cans with gas, and all batteries can be turned in to the U-Fix-It store, Wednesday through Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 95th Air Base Wing Civil Engineer and Transportation Directorate Self-Help Center, located in building 3479, is available Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to assist facility managers with information, equipment, and supplies.
