When Hurricane Michael hit the Gulf Coast of Florida in October of 2018, it left the area, including Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, in a state of emergency.

With half the buildings on base destroyed and the rest damaged, the service members assigned to Tyndall AFB have worked tirelessly to get the base up and running at full capacity.

Among the damage was the air battle manager’s school house, building 1285. Now that the school house has been rebuilt, it was renamed “General Lori Robinson Hall,” on May 26, dedicated to one of their own: retired Gen. Lori Robinson.

“I am honored, humbled and overwhelmed to have this building named after me,” she said during the online ceremony. “I am so proud to be a part of the ABM community – I am a part of something bigger than myself.”

During Robinson’s, a University of New Hampshire ROTC graduate, successful 36-year career in the Air Force, she had many accomplishments, including becoming the highest ranking ABM in the Air Force, as well as the first female combatant commander in United States military history.

“I wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for the incredible leadership, and the support of my family,” she said.

She also commanded an operations group, a training wing and an air control wing, as well as deployed as vice commander of the 405th Air Expeditionary Wing, where she led more than 2,000 Airmen in operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

“The Air Force, the warfighting team and our nation are better today, safer today, because of her leadership,” said Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein. “All future air battle managers will enter these doors, and walk these halls to train here – they will always know the long blue line they are a part of when entering Gen. Lori Robinson Hall.”

He went on to say that her bold decisive leadership is part of the Air Force DNA, and her successes are paving the way for young women to aim high.

“I look forward to coming to see it in person, and say thank you to each of you,” Robinson said. “It’s up to you all to be up to the challenge, and hold yourself accountable to yourself and those around you.”
